Members of the Neston Ecumenical Singers continue to be busy over the summer period even though the main choir will only be meeting again on Monday 6th September 2010 for the Annual General Meeting at the start of the Singers’ 30th season.
Neston Village Fair 3rd July 2010
This event took place on the field by Neston Parish Church. The weather was near perfect with strong sunshine, warm temperatures and a cool breeze. Attendance was as busy as ever and there was a programme of field events commencing with the crowning of the Rose Queen and an opening address by the new Mayor of Neston. A contingent of the Ellesmere Port ATC Band had lead the march from Neston URC and the Rose Queen entourage who were transported in vintage and veteran cars. On the field were numerous fund raising stalls and as many charity stalls who were advertising their organisations. The Singers had erected a gazebo to protect the new Display Boards and also ran a free tombola where punters had to dip to discover which sweets were good for singers. If they had a orange ticket they got a ‘good’ boiled sweet and if they had a green ticket they won a ‘bad’ chocolate mouse. Not many takers were found for this but it did inject some humour into the afternoon. Many people called at our stall and were most impressed by the photo enlargements of the Singers in concert and rehearsal.

In readiness for the Fair we had printed 200 leaflets in colour inviting people to join us and some of these were handed out during the day.
Pippa Terry was instrumental in the formation of our new Display Board and Diane Millington headed up the production of the new leaflet. We are indebted to them both and the Committee Members who have worked so hard to create these items and have enabled us to present the Singers effectively at the Village Fair.
Weddings
Following monthly rehearsals, a number of the Singers have been preparing the anthems to be sung at a couple of weddings. One took place in May at Greasby RC Church and one is due to take place later on in August to be held at St. John the Divine Church, Greasby Road, Frankby. The Singers will support the hymn singing and during the signing will sing two anthems by Rutter, The Lord Bless You and Keep You and, For the Beauty of the Earth.

The Neston Ecumenical Singers are often asked to sing at weddings around the Wirral. Couples can request a favourite anthem during the signing of the register or choose choral music during the entrance or exit of the bride. Dates are available for wedding bookings in 2010 and 2011.
